What’s Happening, Mopo?

Linda Fredriksson, Eero Tikkanen and Eeti Nieminen of Mopo rely on the power of friendship.

According to your press materials, Mopo got its start after a bar fight. Would you say things got out of hand?

Yes, things definitely got out of hand. The evening got so wild that we had no choice but to start a band. The band wasn’t originally called Mopo, though, but something completely different…

Where do the surprises and the humour in your music come from?

There are three good friends who play in Mopo. We have spent a lot of time together, and we trust each other completely. On the other hand we are very different in some respects, and it creates a friction that’s beneficial to our performances and our improvisation.

If Mopo was a real moped, what kind of a moped would it be?

A red, tuned Tunturi grandpa moped.

If you could invite anyone to perform with Mopo, who would it be and why?

Finnish actress Elina Salo – to tell a story.

What kind of memories or expectations do you have of Tampere Jazz Happening?

This is Mopo’s first encounter with Tampere Jazz Happening. Our expectations are very high because we’ve heard a lot of great things about the festival!

We are also interested in seeing other performers, for example Peter Brötzmann’s Chicago Tentet.  RORO-REE!
